The best games in 20 years. Year 2005: Fahrenheit, Psychonauts, Need for Speed: Most Wanted

Warning: All games were chosen by intra -editing voting. If your favorite project is not on the list, this does not mean that we forgot about him – he simply did not have enough voices.

Fahrenheit

Now, when interactive cinema in its current form has already managed to fan the little, it is hard to believe that the genre in 2005 has just been born. It was after Fahrenheit that many thought that some games, perhaps, did not even need gameplay, and QTE massively began to use almost all who is not lazy.

And of course, there was an atmospheric, intriguing story about a guy who became a killer against his will. And about detectives investigating this case. By the way, to play, by the way, was offered both for the criminal and for his pursuers. It turned out unusual and even revolutionary – it was not for nothing that Fahrenheit gameria called the “game of the year” then.

Psychonauts

It's funny, but between Psychonauts Tim Shaifer and the game Michel Ansel Beyond Good & Evil can be drawn a lot of parallels. Both became cult, both failed financially, both “mixed” the Platformer genre with other genres, and, nice, both only recently “reached the honored sequels.

But the main thing is that in both games there is something that is deprived of hundreds of other projects: they want to return to their characters. Psychonauts talked about a summer camp for children with unusual abilities, where there was a place for teenage experiences and a cozy magical atmosphere. Most of the events unfolded in the heads of other people, where each level is, in fact, the reflection of their personalities, a unique world. It is precisely such bright author projects that remain in the memory of thousands of fans.

Need for Speed: Most Wanted

Most Wanted has become a kind of milestone in the history of the NEED For Speed series. Yes, the game is largely covered and boring. But it was she who returned the champion with the police, changed the familiar bright urban style after two Undergrounds (remember these color filters “Sepia with acid”?) and gave the clock of cinematographic races race with cops along the huge highway around the northern part of the city.

Well, do not forget that very final chase with ministers on the tail – the best game moment of 2005, according to our editorial office, fully paid off several tedious days of passage.

Resident Evil 4

Rotal for the Resident Evil franchise game, which has become a cult in full separation from its predecessors. And only it was worthwhile to stop taking yourself seriously! A good dose of self -irony and innovative combat mechanics changed the game beyond recognition. Stressed and very uncomfortable walks around the gray Spanish villages are adjacent to a giant robotic dwarf, a king-fish and a chance to take zombies to the Suproxy. Sassens can coexist with an idiotic action, and CAPCOM has proved this. It is a pity that only once.

“Mor. Utopia"

Many, without understanding this game, were determined by artisanal crafts, unworthy of attention. There is a share of truth in this, because from the point of view of the gameplay in it everything is quite bad. A terrible shooting physics, seemingly open, but blocked by insurmountable fences not marked on the map, a city for research, an abundance of bugs ..

But the game took its history and atmosphere. In the role of one of the three characters, we arrived at the place covered by the plague epidemic, and tried to figure out what was happening and what to do with it. And Winstler Casino each hero received his answers, which often crossed everything that you knew before, and at the very end it suddenly became clear that this whole city was not at all what you thought ..

It is not easy to describe the cunning of the plot on the fingers and without spoilers, but you can recall films like “The Sixth Feeling”, where the last five minutes they shed light on all the oddities that were taking place with the heroes, and build in a square, because in the “mor. Utopia "you were shocked by unexpected plot twists more than once, but a few. And it definitely was worth it to get through uncomfortable control and other dirty tricks – because what you learn at the end will surely make you another person.

Call of Duty 2

"Perl-Harbor" and "Save Private Ryan" from the world of video games. The original, of course, was quite popular, but it was the sequel that gave birth to the very Call of Duty, which we know and love, although she got us. The developers simply took all the most famous and vivid episodes of the Second World War and turned them into one continuous attraction, from which the player should not tear nothing – including the search for first -aid kits. Yes, this is a primitive shooting range, yes, enemies do not shine with intelligence and climb under bullets, but what kind of production is here! After the destroyed house in Stalingrad falls right on you, goosebumps run on the back with herds!

F.E.A.R.

The legendary shooter, who to a certain extent deconstructed the entire genre with … a couple of little things. Many FPS critics often miss an important point: in the past, military art was a serious discipline. Not for idiots.

F.E.A.R. reminds of this, handing the player a slowdown in time and superbly scribbled enemies, who to this day have no equal. In f.E.A.R. Each shootout is a series of fast solutions, stressful management and checking ingenuity. And only then – a reaction test.

Prince of Persia: The Two Thrones

The third part united a fairy tale from the first game with an “adult” approach to the second, and at the same time finally completed the history of the hero. It turned out beautifully, although not without misses.

God of War

The game, which gave birth to one of the most popular series on the consoles of PlayStation, gave us the most brutal anti -hero for the decade and determined the development vector of Western slasers for years in advance.

Black & White 2

The legendary, but, alas, the now deceased Lionhead Studios studio in 2005 rolled out a direct continuation of one of its main games, Black & White. The player remained the only god of the Greek people, the rest, and these are the Vikings, Aztecs and the Japanese, it was necessary to prove their highest origin with smart tactics on the side of good or rough power on the side of evil. Titans, gigantic animals, who helped to fulfill the will of the Almighty came to the aid of the “divine”.

In general, from Black & White 2 came out a wonderful hybrid of real -time strategies, a city -planning simulator and a simulator of God. No wonder we remember her twelve years later in our top!

Battlefield 2

Large -scale tactical shooter, which after twelve years is still alive than all the living. According to some estimates, the best game game and the best project in Dice career.

Call of Cthulhu: Dark Corners of the Earth

Unpretentious and ugly, but incredibly atmospheric game. Perhaps the best interactive work on the motives of Howard Phillips Lovecraft.

"Blitzkrieg II"

Taking the best ideas of the first part, the second “Blitzkrieg” increased them and carried them to the final through seventy missions, the outcome of which influenced the proximity of victory.

Guitar Hero

Guitar Hero was not the first rhythmic simulator in the history of the gaming industry, but it was this game that made an indelible impression on most of the gamers. The concept is simple: there is a plastic guitar and a set of “notes”, the main thing is to press the buttons in time. And there will be music.

Devil May Cry 3: Dante’s AWAKENING

Having failed with the second part of Devil May Cry, Capcom took up the mind and released just an exemplary third. Veselchak and Balagur Dante returned, and with him branded madness. And not only in the plot, but also in gameplay. Like you, for example, a battle with a giant dog? And already at the usual level of complexity, the game made the game sweat!

History reasoned

In 2005, the list of the best of the best decreased to ten. Almost all games migrated from it to our top, except Peter Jackson’s King Kong (7th place) and The Movies (2nd place). Well, the first place is still for Fahrenheit.
